A spicy molasses cookie made with ground ginger, cloves and cinnamon…does anything sound more fall to you?
Every year for Thanksgiving I try to make a new recipe for you to add to your dinner. I have shared my Thanksgiving turkey, a spiced cranberry sauce, a sweet potato souffle , a cranberry punch (for adults) and even a pumpkin pie cake recipe. This year I wanted to share one of my all time favorite recipes, spicy molasses cookies…these cookies scream fall as they are spicy, chewy and make your home smell amazing.
In a large bowl add flour and seasonings
sift flour to incorporate all the seasonings, make sure it is well blended, set aside
melt butter, to your melted butter add the sugar
mix well, add the molasses, then the egg (be sure to keep mixing in adding the egg so it doesn’t cook in the hot butter), mix until incorporated
add 1/3 of the flour to your mixture
mix well, add another 1/3 of flour
add final 1/3 of flour, the dough almost feels like play dough
wrap the dough in plastic wrap (do not put it in a plastic bag) and place in refrigerator for 1-2 hours
preheat oven to 375 degrees, roll dough into teaspoon balls and roll balls in sugar, place on baking sheet
bake for 8-10 minutes, the cookies will puff up slightly
let molasses cookie cool completely before removing from baking sheet
These molasses cookies are thin, chewy, spicy and will warm your heart! If you are looking for a new recipe for your Thanksgiving dinner, this recipe is a must try! This is one of our all time favorite recipes, they freeze up lovely, can be given away as gifts and will stay chewy for a couple of days.
This year I will not be hosting dinner at my house and will be a guest, I can’t wait to see what will be made for me as it is the first time in over 20 years that I will attend a dinner that I haven’t made!!! Thank you to all my followers for always being so supportive to me, I love the emails, comments and support. I wish you all the best!!!!
