Ever wonder why ordering spinach in a restaurant is so expensive? Let me explain using my spinach with garlic recipe as an example.
Spinach has come a long way when it comes to purchasing, cooking, and nutrients. Back in the day, spinach needed to be hand washed at home, by you…this took 3-4 washes to remove all the dirt from the leaves. I guess it’s because spinach grows so close to the ground that a lot of dirt ends up on the leaves which was why 3-4 washes was a necessity. Today you can purchase spinach in bags or containers, the spinach is usually already washed, make sure to check your package, and if it’s not cleaned, please make sure to use fresh, clean spinach for this recipe.
To make spinach with garlic, place 1-2 cloves of crushed garlic in a pan with a little oil and let it cook for about a minute or so
add your clean spinach to the pan; mine always overflows in the pan
cover and cook for 4-5 minutes
place in a bowl to serve
So see, all that spinach and it barely made a serving for two, this is why spinach can be costly in a restaurant, or you won’t see it served as a side. This recipe is the perfect side dish; I especially enjoy it with my meatloaf. What do you think?
