I have had some health issues recently and I was told by my amazing doctor to change some things about my life, like try to destress more, try yoga and try to eat healthier. I did try to relax more, I tried yoga, wasn’t my thing and I tried to eat healthier…because of that, I created this recipe for baked yam chips.
I love…love..love potato chips…love them like crazy…and I was craving the fried potato with salt. I also needed to listen to the doctors orders and decided to bake some yams with oil and salt and guess what? My baked yams came out amazing…amazing…amazing and it cured my craving for fried potato chips!
So while there are not a lot of ingredients for this recipe and it is fairly an easy recipe, the hardest part of this recipe is the cutting part because of that I would highly recommend using or splurging on a mandoline. I found a great mandoline on Amazon for under $20 so it’s not really a big splurge and trust me when I say this, “once you own a mandoline you will find yourself using it all the time”.
After cutting the yams and sweet potatoes (if you are unsure of the sweet potato vs the yam check out this recipe) I placed them in a bowl with oil, salt and pepper and placed them on a baking sheet
baked for 10 minutes
flipped them and baked for an additional 10-12 minutes.
I actually wanted them to be a little more crisp so I baked them for a 2-3 more minutes
Even though some of the chips look burnt, they are just as tasty as the other chips, I just felt that if I had taken them out early they would be too soft for me.
The hardest part of this recipe for baked yams is waiting until they cool off to eat them!!! You definitely want to wait until they cool off completely before eating the yam chips because as they cool they crunch up and you will not miss the “fried” in a potato chip!
