Recently I was introduced to Trader Joes (I am not sponsored by them, nor do they pay for advertising) Butternut Squash Zig Zags. The idea of having butternut squash, cleaned, cut and ready for use was very appealing to me.
I decided to bake the butternut squash to try and make a “french fry” that is baked and not cooked in oil so a little bit healthier option?
Here is how the package looks from Trader Joes
I placed the cut, cleaned butternut squash on a baking sheet, tossed it in oil, put some Lawrey’s Seasoning salt, you can use your favorite seasoning or keep it simple and use salt/pepper.
Baked the seasoned butternut squash at 425 degrees, I cooked the butternut squash for 10-12 minutes, removed from oven and tossed, then baked for an additional 8-10 minutes
They were done cooking and slightly browned so I placed them in a bowl to serve.
Everyone loved the flavor of the butternut squash and it the recipe is a good recipe but for me, I will share that they were a little soggy for my likings. The package was only 12 ounces of butternut squash but it wasn’t quite enough to really serve to guests as a side. I am not sure what else I would do with this product, sauté it with other vegetables? Please send me a message or comment to let me know what you have done or what you think is a good option, I’m open to trying it again!
